Collection: Andrea Tierney
I am Austrian and received my training in Fine Art/Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. There I met my husband, the actor Malcolm Tierney and at 23 I moved to London where I’ve lived and worked as art teacher and artist ever since.
In 2000 I joined an MA course at Westminster University at the Hypermedia Studies department, which brought artists of various fields together with programmers. It was a huge learning curve but very important in my development as an artist to be part of the digital revolution and the convergence of media.
In 2004 I began studying Textile Design/print at Central Saint Martins College for Art and Design. This revived a deep connection with the Austrian heritage of design in textiles and patterns.
I have always maintained a regular art practice, working in studios and on residencies and exhibiting in the UK and abroad. For the past years I have exhibited with BEAT.
My painting techniques are multi disciplinary, ranging from oil, acrylic, watercolour and ink painting to pastel, monoprinting and lino printing.
The exploration of the female figure has been one strand of my work. The other strand is a purely abstract form of painting, where gestures of the brush inform the actions of painting.
My studio is now located in my home and I welcome visitors who may wish to know more about my work.
